Common TIB Use Cases
Anytime goods enter the US temporarily — for testing, display, repair, or demonstration — a TIB prevents duties from accruing while the goods are in-country.
Trade Shows & Exhibitions
Bring display equipment, samples, or demonstration units across the border, then re-export after the event — no duties paid.
Testing & Quality Evaluation
Import goods for lab testing, evaluation, or certification. Re-export once the testing is complete.
Repair & Reconditioning
Bring equipment into the US for repairs or servicing, then return it to the owner abroad once completed.
Prototype & Product Development
Import prototype goods or components for product development, then re-export when development is finished.
Film & Production Equipment
Temporary entry for production gear, props, or vehicles used in filming — returned after production wraps.
Professional Instruments
Scientific instruments, survey equipment, or specialized tools brought in for a project or installation.
Duty-Free, On
Your Timeline
A TIB is the most flexible US-specific tool for temporary imports — it works for goods that don't qualify for ATA Carnet categories, and for entries from countries outside the carnet network.
BorderTek coordinates the bond procurement through licensed surety partners, manages re-export deadlines, and handles bond discharge — so your customs team focuses on the business, not the paperwork.

Our partner network coordinates issuance through a licensed surety. Bond amount is typically set at double the estimated duties and taxes on the goods.
CBP Entry Filing
Goods are entered under HTS Chapter 98 (specifically 9813), classified as temporary imports. CBP reviews documentation and authorizes the duty-free entry.
Re-Export & Bond Discharge
When goods are exported, we obtain proof of exportation (CBP Form 3495 or equivalent) and coordinate bond discharge — preventing duties from accruing.
